American Idol Advantage & Auditions Aren’t About Talent

January 18th, 2010

Anyone who follows American Idol knows that there are times when there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to who is selected - and who is rejected. According to the ‘American Idol Advantage,’ this is because the judges aren’t selecting candidates on the principles we think they are. “Talent is not the most important factor in making it past these first auditions,” said Andy West, a marketing specialist and representative of www. AmericanIdolTips. com. “The singers who have a clearer understanding of this are the ones who make it past the judges. ”If there is anything that gets results in the American Idol auditions, it’s not talent - it’s how much time and effort people have put into their presentation. Singers who desperately want the opportunity stand out from the crowd, not because they’re talented, but because they have done their homework: they know how to market themselves in order to get the judges’ attention. ‘American Idol Advantage’ explain the factors that actually determine the judges’ choices in the first round of American Idol auditions - those that separate the chosen few from the rest of the crowd. The e-book is full of trends, tips, and other information that reveals how American Idol auditions are really won: songs that boost a candidate’s chances, versus those that bomb; how successful candidates tend to dress; and how to interpret the judges’ reactions to you and your audition. ‘American Idol Advantage’ also includes analysis and interpretation of past American Idol auditions, showing real-life examples of what works - and what doesn’t. “There’s a lot more to these initial auditions than just singing,” said Mr. West. As with everything else in life, the American Idol auditions are about more than just showing up - they’re about being prepared. ‘American Idol Advantage’ provides everyday people with a shot at making it onto American Idol - by teaching them how to prepare. “The singers that do their homework and are the most prepared will make it on to the show, plain and simple,” Mr. West said. Wagerweb.com Posts Odds for American Idol’s “Final Four”

January 15th, 2010

San Jose, Costa Rica - May 9, 2006 - WagerWeb. com, one of the Internet’s largest betting sites with odds surrounding the hottest issues in the news, posted odds today allowing bettors to predict the winner from the four remaining contestants on the top rated television show, American Idol. Wagerweb. com CEO Dave Johnson predicts more bets for the Idol winner than the more than 10,000 they took in for the 2004 Presidential election. Wagerweb. com gained nationwide attention last week when it offered odds on the Duke DNA test outcome, as well as odds about hurricanes and tropical storms hitting the U. S. during the 2006 - 2007 season.

“Our oddsmakers agree for the most part with Simon Cowell,” says Johnson. “Chris Daughtry and Taylor Hicks are the odds on favorites to win the competition,” Johnson adds.

Johnson expects Taylor Hicks will ultimately be the top choice this week. “With ‘Elvis’ as this week’s theme,” Johnson says, “Bettors recognize Taylor’s ‘Elvis’ like dancing makes him the perfect pick. ” The odds for the “Final Four” American Idol contestants are as follows:

Chris Daughtry -140 (Bet $140 to win $100)

Taylor Hicks +100 (Bet $100 to win $100)

Katharine McPhee +140 (Bet $100 to win $140)Katharine McPhee +140 (Bet $100 to win $140)

Elliot Yamin +160 (Bet $100 to win $160)

Luke Menard - American Idol Contestant

January 14th, 2010

29 years old

Hometown: Crawfordsville, IN

Musical Influences: James Taylor, Take 6, Chapter 6, John Mayer, Maroon 5, Keane, Billy Joel, Bee Gees

“Don’t fight. But if you have to… hit first and hit hard. ”

-From the American Idol website

Luke Menard is everywhere on the Internet. He has a website dedicated solely to his exploits as he tries to make it to the top spot in the American Idol. His videos are posted in every type of fan site available. He’s about to become famous. He’s talented. He has a good singing voice. And the fact that he is good-looking doesn’t hurt one bit.

Before AI

Menard has a pretty ordinary life before American Idol. He was born and raised in Indiana and began singing during his freshman year in high school. After graduating with a degree in Communications from Milkin University in Illinois, he worked for a Chicago-based finance company. He later became part of an a cappella singing group called Chapter 6 and that’s essentially how he came to start considering a career in show business.

Unfortunately for female fans, Luke Menard is very much married, and happily at that. He has been married to wife Lara for four years now. His wife is just as much of a performer as himself. She is a theater performer who has been going around the country a whole lot.

From his first audition in Omaha, Menard was out to prove that he was more than just a pretty face. He managed to impress the judges long enough to offer him a golden ticket to Hollywood. From there, everything went just smoothly as he managed to get into the top 24 aspirants for the much coveted title of being the next American Idol. For this small town guy, making it to the Top 24 in itself was an incredible experience, surreal even.

Tidbits

Interestingly, Luke Menard didn’t start singing until he was in his teenage years. He didn’t want to sing before then because he didn’t want to be made fun of. For him, singing was embarrassing so he didn’t dare sing in choirs or in front of crowds before high school.

Aside from singing, he’s an excellent motorcycle driver. He owns a motorcycle that is more than twenty years old. Menard is especially proud of this touring vehicle as he calls it. If he didn’t make it on AI, he would probably take his wife for a ride from Los Angeles to New York. Winning the American Idol is just one of his many goals in life. He’s just like the next nice guy, really. He wants to start a family with his wife and live a good life being of service to other people. Hopefully, being in the music industry would allow him to enjoy and help out by becoming the role model that he aspires to be.

Luke Menard is ready to take the American audience by storm. Singing wasn’t something that he imagined he would do as a kid but everything came into place as soon as he discovered that he has a talent that he should work on. He didn’t have to obtain formal training in singing but he sure has a promising voice so that’s more than enough for him to be able to maintain his post in the competition.

What American Idol and Small Business Have in Common

January 13th, 2010

American Idol has become the fixation of the American public, a television show that will be remembered for years to come even after it will eventually stop showing. A show that definitely has brought much success to many people. Some very well know and others who have discovered stardom overnight.
Every Tuesday night I sit down with my daughters to watch American Idol and speculate who will win who will not and on it goes. Like all of you I’ve been pasted to the T. V. for the past few months enjoying all that I see on American Idol. But this season has been very interesting, that is if you watch very closely.
The first thing is American Idol is not always a singing contest. Yes, Simon will say get off it and let’s vote who is the best singer. But the fact of the matter is many times American Idol is a popularity contest. It does not matter who can sing the best but who entertains the best. Unfair for those who are really talented as you saw with Melinda Doolittle. She was unbelievable and flawless but not as popular as Jordin Sparks. I also realistically thought that Melinda was predictable. We always knew her performance was going to be perfect.
The other thing I learned about American Idol is the American public is looking for a rags to riches story. Like the no body or nothing singer for the country side who becomes a super star. Or- the seventeen year old Jordin Sparks who becomes a super star at such a young age. American loves a little story-
But what does this have to do with small business? Pretty simple.
Some small businesses you will see are very busy successful and its based on popularity in a community. Does this center have the best service or the best products and equipment? Maybe or maybe not.
People are drawn to a small business for a variety of reasons- some of which maybe its just the place to go. My friend told me to go there, or my boss goes there. They said it was ok. It does not always mean that they have the best service or the best people working for them. Other variables that fall into consideration are competition in the community, the size, demand and so on goes the list of factors.
So the next time you think about business, think about people and what they are drawn to and why.

Top Ten American Idols Ever

January 12th, 2010

American Idol boasts the largest audience in the history of the United States. It seems like everyone I’ve ever met not only watches the show, but is passionate about it. This is the beauty of American Idol. People can grab on to a specific contestant and root for them as the season progresses. They are characters in a sense, but quite unlike ones on normal TV. You can’t predict what they will do, how they will sing on a given night, or when they’ll be going home. American Idol is wholly unpredictable and, as a result, we fans grow attached.

BuddyTV’s list of top ten American Idols is great one because it is diverse and gives us all a video of each member of the list. If you had, say, forgotten how good Justin Guarini was, now you can remember. The top spot on the list is held by none other than Kelly Clarkson, who has set the bar almost impossibly high for the rest of the winning idols. Her career since the show has been an unmitigated success, surpassing any expectations that could’ve been placed on her. No one has yet achieved her heights, yet Carrie Underwood looks to be on her way.

For a nice Idol refresher before going into the new season, check out the BuddyTV top ten list. They’re coverage of American Idol has been sensational as the premiere date inches closer and closer. If you can’t wait until season 6 gets in full swing or you’re reading this while it’s on, BuddyTV has all the info you could ever want.

Dating Advice: What American Idol Can Teach Us About Attracting Women

January 11th, 2010

When used correctly, arrogance can be an amazing tool to help you attract women. When you’re slightly arrogant, females want to find a redeeming softer side to you. If you’re too arrogant or rude you will blow your chances. Let’s look at Simon Cowell for a minute. When we first saw Simon on American Idol our first instinct was to hate the guy. We all said, “What an arrogant bastard”. Now us guys thought that and probably never gave it a second thought, but women around the world starting digging deeper. They thought, “There’s got to be something more to this guy”. Then as the season went on Simon began to give credit where credit was do. What began to happen was incredible. Whenever Simon gave a compliment, the audience and all of America (particularly women) began to cheer like crazy. Why did this happen? The reason is because people were so excited to see that redeeming quality they were searching for shine through. They knew there was some good in this guy. They found themselves wanting to like him. Randy Jackson who never played the mysterious, arrogant role at all didn’t get nearly the same response when he gave kudos to a contestant. The key is to balance this confident arrogance with a sweet, vulnerable side. You can actually create a pattern with women where they’ll start being nice to you and doing all kinds of favors for you just to see that redeeming side of you peek through. It’s an amazing thing to watch when it’s done right. Personally I hate the idea of playing the arrogant role because I’m genuinely a nice, humble guy but it really works so I do it anyway. It even annoys me that women react well to this kind of attitude but unfortunately it’s a fact of life. Remember not to be mean for the sake of being mean. I wouldn’t go as far as Simon, who actually crossed the line sometimes and became mean. Remember - you don’t have months and months on a TV show to redeem yourself like he does so you can’t afford to go as far with it as he has. But done properly, arrogance can really work for you. A simple way you can begin to create the kind of dynamic that Simon does is to start calling girls out on things. Start “breaking her chops” in a playful way. When they are being lazy, call them lazy. If you don’t like her outfit, say, “I’m not really feeling that. You should wear something else”. Please don’t take this as a cue to go out and be MEAN to women. Instead it’s a cue to go out and be HONEST with women. Her behavior will actually begin to cater to making you happy and she’ll start working hard to bring the complimentary side out of you.

Championship Betting Review - 9 April 2006

January 10th, 2010

Reading closed in on Sunderland’s Championship points record of 105 by thrashing Cardiff 5-2 at Ninian Park. James Harper after 10 minutes and Dave Kitson on 39 gave the Royals a deserved half-time lead before an own goal by Glenn Loovens on 52 increased their advantage further. The Bluebirds hit back through Cameron Jerome on 67 and Paul Parry on 80 but Reading had two more of their own in Kevin Doyle on 87 and James Harper’s second in injury time to seal a confident 6/4 win.
Sheffield United grabbed a late winner against Hull to all but seal automatic promotion. Neil Shipperley after 36 minutes and Paul Ifill on 52 gave the 1/2 Blades the lead before Hull hit back through Stuart Elliott on 65 and Daryl Duffy five minutes later. Veteran defender David Unsworth smashed in the decisive goal at the death.
Watford could only manage a 1-1 draw with Luton, handing the advantage to Sheffield United. Marlon King struck his twentieth goal of the season to give the Hornets the lead after 36 minutes but Ahmet Brkovic equalised on 73 for a 12/5 draw.
Leeds are also unlikely to catch the Blades after a goalless draw with Plymouth. Without a win in six matches, shrewd punters will have snapped up the draw at generous 13/5 odds.
Preston moved up a place to fifth and are almost assured a play-off place after Norwich scored two own goals at Deepdale. Jason Shackell after 20 minutes and Gary Doherty on 38 did the hard work for 5/6 North End before half-time.
Despite losing 2-0 at Leicester on Friday night, Crystal Palace also look set for a play-off place. On-loan Andy Welsh broke the deadlock three minutes before half-time and Stephen Hughes on 87 sealed a 9/5 home win.
Wolves squandered a two goal lead against Coventry. Veteran Paul Ince broke the deadlock after two minutes while Colin Cameron added a second 20 minutes later. Stern John gave the Sky Blues hope after 25 minutes and Gary McSheffrey equalised on the hour for a 9/4 draw. Wolves are 10 points adrift in seventh place of both Crystal Palace and Preston.
Crewe dragged Sheffield Wednesday back into the relegation dogfight and are within a mathematical chance of survival themselves following a 2-0 win at Gresty Road. Gareth Taylor’s double strike on 31 and 45 completed step one of the great escape at 11/8.
Southampton effectively assured their survival in the division but sent opponents Brighton to the foot of the table with a 2-0 win at the Withdean Stadium. Ricardo Fuller netted first after 37 minutes and Richard Chaplow sealed a 7/4 away victory.
Derby also took a step closer to safety but pushed Millwall deeper into the relegation mire with a 1-0 win at Pride Park. Tommy Smith scored his sixth goal of the campaign to earn the Rams three points at 10/11.

Singing Tips to Help Make You the Next American Idol!

January 10th, 2010

No matter what type of music you fancy, all you have to do is listen to the radio and you’ll find beautiful singing voices. People like Patsy Cline and Josh Groban immediately come to mind as two of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard. And let’s face it, we’d all love to be able to sing like those two velvet throated virtuosos. Well, believe it or not, it’s not as hard as you might thing. In this article, I’m going to share 3 killer tips that will improve your singing 100%.   Probably the most important part of singing is the breathing. Most people who sing, even some professional pop singers, do NOT breathe correctly. The correct way to breathe is from your diaphragm, which is just below your rib cage. By doing this, and slowly exhaling as you let out the tone, you will get a fuller and rounder tone, as opposed to singing from your throat, which is what most people do.   The next tip has to do with hitting those high notes. The problem with most people when they sing is that they try to hit that high C exactly. What you actually need to do is reach for slightly above high C, then in actuality what happens is that you hit the note that you were trying to hit. It’s more of a psychological trick than a physical one, but it does work very well.   The final tip has to do with your vocal chords. You need to think of them the same way that you would think of the strings of a piano. The lower notes are longer and the strings are thicker. The higher notes are shorter and the strings are thinner. Thus, when you are singing, you need to shorten the vocal chords when you sing your higher notes, otherwise, the sound will not come out.   Well, it sounds very easy doesn’t it?  If only you had a tutor. Well, not a problem. Below in my signature is a review of a great resource that will have you singing like a pro in no time at all.   You may not sing like the next American Idol, but you’ll sound darn good.

Players Out
Josh Low (Leicester City – Free), Martin Smith (Darlington – Free), Jason Lee (Boston United – Free), Ashley Westwood (Chester City – Free), Gavin Johnson (Oxford United – Free), Luke Graham (Kettering Town – Free).
Northampton Town have been the bookmaker’s favourites to win League Two outright following their relegation to the dungeon in the 2003/04 season. After two seasons of play off heartache, the Cobblers finished in second place last season to return to League One.
They will have to face the step up in quality without manager Colin Calderwood, who took over at Nottingham Forest, while former Wycombe Wanderers manager John Gorman has taken over at the Sixfields Stadium. The backroom staff has also changed, with Jim Barron leaving his post as goalkeeping coach at Wycombe to join up with Gorman, following Dave Watson’s decision to follow Calderwood to Forest.
Gorman has made winger Sam Aiston and left back Andy Holt his first signings after taking charge at the newly promoted club and both players signed two year contracts. Former Sunderland prospect Aiston was released by Tranmere Rovers last season following on term at Prenton Park while Holt ended a two year stay at Wrexham following spells at Oldham Athletic and Hull City.
Gorman returned to Wycombe to snap up midfielder Joe Burnell on a free transfer, ending the former Bristol City player’s two year tenure at Adams Park. Meanwhile, David Hunt and veteran duo Eoin Jess and Ian Taylor have all agreed new deals to remain at Sixfields. However, former Wales under 21 winger Josh Low has left the club following his £165,000 switch in 2003 and has signed for Championship club Leicester City on a free transfer.
Verdict
Northampton will find their first season back in League One a struggle. Last season’s top goal scorer Scott McGleish should draw on last season’s goal haul and use his ability to score enough goals to keep the Cobblers afloat in John Gorman’s first term in charge.
